Colégio Cônsul Carlos Renaux Wins SDG Award SC 2025

We received this wonderful message from Nathan Krieger, Professor of Religious Education and Social Projects ad Colégio Cônsul Carlos Renaux in Brazil:

Dear friends! Sharing some nice news from Brazil.

Colégio Cônsul Carlos Renaux, in Brusque, Santa Catarina, Brazil, won the SDG Award SC 2025 in the educational institutions category for its Student Volunteer project. The award ceremony took place on August 15th in Joinville, Santa Catarina, during the Brazil SDG Forum. The project stood out among more than 90 initiatives from signatories across the state. Promoted by the National SDG Movement Santa Catarina, in partnership with Bússola Social, the award recognizes organizations that contribute to a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future through initiatives already developed in Santa Catarina.

Since 2019, the school has maintained the Student Volunteer project, which mobilizes approximately 70 elementary and high school students in social, environmental, cultural, and educational initiatives. Activities include visits to hospitals and nursing homes, planting vegetable gardens in daycare centers, revitalizing school spaces, and holding clothing and food drives. The initiative’s essence is to develop critical, compassionate citizens who are aware of their responsibility toward life and the environment, encouraging positive leadership, empathy, and social engagement. Over the past four years, the project has successfully reused around 8,000 uniforms and collected thousands of school supplies, toys, clothing, and food. Furthermore, through activities with children and the elderly, we practice solidarity and empathy.

This recognition reaffirms Colégio Cônsul’s commitment to uniting faith, values, and education in caring for God’s creation. By promoting student volunteerism, the school strengthens its mission of witnessing to the Gospel through concrete actions that reflect the love of Christ and its commitment to a more just and sustainable world, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN 2030 Agenda.
